On the Suzuki Jimny HJ and GJ, the all-wheel drive is based on the free-wheeling hubs of the front wheels. These work pneumatically by air pressure, so all the seals have to work perfectly. At the same time, the wheel hubs are particularly exposed to the adverse conditions, dirt, mud, water, salt and so on. The automatic mechanism for switching on the all-wheel drive is well meant. When the driver of the Suzuki Jimny GJ or HJ moves the lever from 2H to 4H or 4L, the free-wheeling hubs are locked by vacuum, so that from then on the power is transmitted to the front wheels too. When switching back to 2H, the driver expects the free-wheeling hubs to unlock again.
