LAND by Jason Rubino is more than just another book about the Land Rover. We took a look at the new release for you.
The book came out in mid-July in English with gestalten, and it is a fine tribute to the classic Land Rover.
The design alone does the icon justice
The cover looks good on its own, artfully done, and it makes you want to start flicking through. But the first thing you notice is the sheer size of this book. LAND comes in full colour, hardback and thread-bound, it is almost three centimetres thick and at around 1.6 kilograms it sits heavy in your hands. Somehow that fits the off-road icon from the United Kingdom.
LAND by Jason Rubino is split into three chapters. The first is about a number of well-known companies that bring Land Rovers, above all the classic Defender, back into a one-off condition. In the second, the author introduces all sorts of Land Rover enthusiasts and their vehicles, along with various projects around the British off-roader. It takes you right around the globe. The third and final chapter is about travellers and their adventures all over the world, always with a Land Rover connection, of course. Build. Culture. Adventure. Three chapters full of stories and photos, kept tight, good to read and to look at. A design professional was clearly at work here.
Each chapter holds some seriously good photos, many of them close-up detail shots, backed by short, informative texts. One thing is clear: anyone looking for hard facts and figures on models, engines, drivetrains and other technical details will not find them in LAND. This is about something else.
Our verdict on LAND by Jason Rubino
Across three chapters and 256 pages, Jason Rubino doesn’t simply describe a car. It is about much more: the vehicle seen through a designer’s eyes, a way of life, passion and a joy for the good things, an eye for beauty and for the small details.
The book is a homage to the Land Rover legend, so it earns its place on the bookshelf of every Land Rover fan and of anyone who can get excited about something beautiful, like the classic, timeless design of a Land Rover. LAND is practically an archive of great photos of the most varied vehicles, and it celebrates this many-sided car.
