An awning that reaches more than halfway around the car and does so without a single support leg: the OLC Adventure 360° awning folds open at the rear and lays itself in a wide arc over your base camp. We’ve taken a look at the newcomer and gathered the key facts for you.
360 degrees of shade, no poles
The clever bit is already in the name. The awning is mounted at the rear of the vehicle and folds forward to both sides until it wraps around the car in a wide arc. That adds up to more than 16.3 square metres of covered area, enough for a kitchen, a table, four chairs and whatever else you need. And because it’s free-standing, you need neither support legs nor guy lines, just fold it open and you’re done.
The whole thing is carried by eight arms made of solid double profiles welded together. On almost all the arms the reach is over two metres. The arms are telescopic: closed, they measure 1.5 metres, and you can extend them by about half a metre, with detents to lock into place.
Light is already built in
Six of the eight arms have dimmable, two-colour LEDs built in. That gives you either bright working light for cooking or warm mood lighting in the evening, with no extra lamp needed.
Material and packed size
The fabric is a tear-resistant 1680D Cordura. Folded up, the awning measures 160 x 20 x 20 centimetres and weighs 24.5 kilograms. For the large covered area that’s a compact package, one that fits crosswise on the roof rack.
The 360-degree awning fits various vehicles, from an SUV like the Toyota RAV4 to a panel van like the Mercedes Vito. OLC gives a two-year guarantee on it, including one year of statutory warranty.
