Nolden’s New 4th-Generation Headlights

For five years Scheinwerfer LUXX has successfully offered LED headlight conversion kits for trucks like the Unimog or the heavy SK class from Mercedes-Benz. Until now these have used the Nolden AVEGO headlights with third-generation LED technology. Now Nolden has announced the fourth generation and a few new products. With the fourth generation, Nolden now leads the world in light performance in the 90-millimetre headlight class.

The Nolden 7″ main headlight is very well known in the off-road scene and has won many fans. Nolden’s performance and quality have always convinced. It’s no coincidence that you find the 7″ Bi-LED main headlight in many military Mercedes-Benz G-Class vehicles, but also in trams, for example in Cologne, Düsseldorf and Munich, where failures are now unheard of. In trams in particular the headlights are exposed to unusually high loads.

The 7″ headlight is perhaps Nolden’s best-known product, but by far not the only one. Also very popular are the 90 mm class headlights, both as round 90 mm units and as the rectangular AVEGO. Scheinwerfer LUXX uses these 90 mm class headlights in the conversion kits for the popular current and former government and municipal trucks. These currently include the Unimog, MB SK (e.g. 1222, 1224, among others), Mercedes-Benz 1117, 1017, 917, 914 and so on, MAN L2000, F2000, HX60, IVECO 90-16. But panel vans like the IVECO Daily 4×4, and soon the Mercedes-Benz Vario too, still use the third-generation headlights.

These conversion kits are being switched to the fourth generation, but the third generation stays available too.

The new 4th generation: Nolden 90 mm Nova and AVEGO Edge

The current versions of these headlights use third-generation LED technology with 1,401 lumens. They’re offered as low-beam headlights with or without daytime running and position lights, and as high-beam headlights with or without position light and indicator, each round with a 90 mm diameter or rectangular (AVEGO).

Now Nolden has developed the fourth generation, which will be available from January 2026. The round 90 mm Nova and the rectangular AVEGO Edge are currently unmatched for light performance in this size class. Where others simply raise the output and lower the lifespan in doing so, Nolden focuses on developing very high-performance lenses. This way, at the same or even lower lumen output, much better illumination is achieved at the same time.

The new AVEGO Edge low-beam headlight shines 5% further and 45% wider, and the light has become noticeably more even. Driving in the dark is less tiring and more pleasant as a result. The high-beam range has been raised significantly, by 22%. Please note that low and high beam are subject to restrictions. So it isn’t possible to achieve any range and brightness you like, even where it would be technically possible.

For a direct comparison, the third- and fourth-generation headlights in the standardised ISO lux diagram. This shows the light as it arrives on the road. With the ISO lux diagram, it isn’t the colour or brightness of the areas that matters, but the boundary from one colour to the next. The fourth generation’s scales are more finely divided and show more boundary lines than the third generation’s.

Now as rear lights too

But better light performance isn’t the only good news. Especially for vehicle builders, cabin builders and DIYers, there are now rear lights in the same design too, the round Nova and the AVEGO Edge. You can now go for the same modern look all around. The Nova and AVEGO Edge rear lights also offer a great 3D effect.

If you want to cover all the required light functions with the AVEGO Edge rear lights, four of them have to be fitted.
