Who’d have thought it: the New Defender is turning more and more into a real travel vehicle. Alongside countless add-on parts and conversion kits, clever interior-build solutions are increasingly appearing too. An interesting example for the New Defender interior is the modular system from Oryx Solutions, made for the Land Rover New Defender 110.
Depending on what you need, you can get the New Defender build from Oryx Solutions in various versions. The heart of the interior is the rear box with drawers. Together with the add-on bed system you have a great basic solution that lets you sleep in your New Defender straight away. The rear box offers plenty of room for your luggage, while the add-on bed offers a generous sleeping surface. At 1,290 x 1,900 mm at its widest, the bed comfortably fits 2 adults to sleep. By the way, you can also fit the bed in the New Defender without the rear box.
During the day the folded bed lies flat on the rear box and takes up hardly any space. When stowed, the rear seats even stay usable. So you can easily travel as a family with a roof tent. The system is made of 15 mm multi-glued plywood, sturdy but, at 14 kg, not too heavy. The diamond design of the sleeping surface gives good ventilation underneath and saves weight at the same time.
Rear box for the New Defender
The rear box from ORYX Solutions fits exactly into the Land Rover New Defender 110 (from model year 2020) and, at around 34 kg, brings a lot of storage without weighing you down unnecessarily. The external dimensions are about 1,290 mm wide, 880 mm deep and 370 mm high. The actual base measures roughly 940 x 720 mm. So even with the sleep system fitted there’s still enough headroom to turn over comfortably at night.
On the right there’s a large drawer with room for a euro box measuring 600 x 400 mm and up to 245 mm high. Next to it on the left, a cool drawer can be fitted. If you’d rather use a second euro-box drawer, you can simply retrofit it, the necessary holes are already prepared.
In the lower part of the box there are two more flat drawers, also in euro-box size (600 x 400 x 75 mm), ideal for smaller pieces of gear. The whole structure is made of multi-glued plywood in 9 and 15 mm thicknesses and is deliberately built to save weight. Hinges with stainless-steel pins, adjustable lever catches and rounded edges make for durability and ease of use.
Fitting is straightforward: no drilling, no tool marathon. The box is secured via integrated handles with lashing straps to the standard tie-down points in the vehicle, everything’s in or out in a few minutes.

Modular furniture systems from Oryx Solutions
Like all modular furniture systems from ORYX Solutions, the New Defender interior is built for what matters on the road: low weight, well-thought-out function and solid workmanship. The individual components are CNC-made, fit precisely and are made of hard-wearing materials. Everything sits tight, nothing wobbles.
Thanks to their low weight they’re easy on fuel consumption, not unimportant when you’re travelling with a full load of gear. They cut a good figure in four-wheel-drive vehicles too and can easily be removed again when needed. Fitting is straightforward and the storage is used to the full.
No frills, just a system that does what it should, developed and built in Germany.
