Shortly after the launch of the Ineos Grenadier with three model variants, the pick-up version, the Quartermaster, now follows.
The first deliveries of the Ineos Quartermaster pick-up for Europe are due to take place as early as December 2023. It joins the Grenadier, which has been available since this year in its three models, the Utility Wagon and the Trialmaster and Fieldmaster station wagons. The Asia-Pacific region, Africa and the Middle East are set to follow shortly. North America is due to be supplied in spring 2024.
Like the Grenadier, the name Quartermaster draws on military jargon: the quartermaster is the one who supplies the troops. Alongside the pick-up, a chassis for vehicle builders is also due to be offered in 2024.
The practical figures
At 5,440 millimetres, the Quartermaster is almost 55 centimetres longer than the Grenadier. The wheelbase is 3,227 millimetres, 305 millimetres longer. That benefits the load bed, which measures 1,564 x 1,619 millimetres and is therefore among the larger areas for double cabs. However, you still have to subtract the spare wheel, which is mounted inside against the side wall. The ramp angle is correspondingly two degrees smaller, dropping from 28.2 degrees to 26.2 degrees.
Its payload at least beats the Jeep Gladiator, which offers only very limited usefulness at 585 kg. But at 760 kg (diesel) to 835 kg (petrol), the Quartermaster is still at the lower end of the payload range compared with other pick-ups. The double cab seats five people.
The engineering is the same as the Grenadier
It’s no surprise that the engineering matches the Grenadier. A ladder frame, the choice between 3-litre six-cylinder BMW turbo engines wanting either diesel or petrol, an 8-speed ZF automatic and a Tremec transfer case, live axles front and rear, permanent all-wheel drive, axles from Carraro. The vehicle can be fitted with up to three locking differentials.
