The next stage in the development of solar cells is their seamless integration into the relevant parts. Instead of separate, awkwardly mounted modules on the house roof, for example, roof tiles are being developed that work as a solar panel in their own right. Nakatanenga’s solar panels for the bonnets of off-roaders and vans follow this principle.
These modules don’t replace the bonnet, but their precise shape, flexibility and low height of just 3 mm mean you only recognise them as an add-on at second glance. The photovoltaic surfaces are extremely aerodynamic and can even be walked on.
You can use the bonnet modules for the Defender (Td5, Td4), New Defender, Jimny 2, G-Class and Sprinter. Depending on the model they deliver between 75 and 90 W at 12 V, provided the sun shines enough. Over the course of the day you produce enough power for the main and auxiliary batteries in the vehicle to run all the devices you need in a camper or expedition vehicle: navigation, communication, laptop, cooking appliances, fridge and much more. That keeps your gear always ready for use and the starter battery always sufficiently charged.
Fitting the bonnet solar panel is just as straightforward as connecting it to the vehicle batteries. With the supplied adhesive tape you can attach the module directly to the bonnet. The smart charge controller with adapter makes fitting easier. Depending on the installation situation, you may have to extend the power cables. But don’t worry, you can manage it!
