The off-road tuning specialist delta4x4 has built a Jeep Wrangler Rubicon for the American tyre producer Cooper Tires, with which the US company tested its chunky Cooper Discoverer STT Pro P.O.R. tyre in the toughest terrain.
The demands were correspondingly high; after all, the Cooper Tire & Rubber Company is known as one of the best makers of off-road tyres. delta4x4 found the ideal off-roader for such demands in the Jeep Wrangler, which in the Rubicon version already offers the best off-road properties in standard trim.
But the team from Unterumbach found further potential for optimisation: so that the Rubicon really gets through anywhere, delta4x4 first gave it a 50-millimetre suspension lift. This suspension kit, developed specially for the Wrangler Rubicon, consists of longer coil springs from Eibach combined with Bilstein dampers. In addition, the Discoverer STT Pro P.O.R. tyres, in the impressive size of 35 x 12.5 R 20, were fitted to delta4x4’s Klassik B wheel.
Cooper Tire’s most extreme off-road tyre is built specifically for off-road use and has already proven its capability at the Dakar Rally. Its Armor-tek³ carcass construction provides the necessary toughness, while the tread drawn deep into the sidewall optimises traction on soft ground and gives the tyre extra bite when climbing on rocky terrain.
Also designed for the toughest off-road use is delta4x4’s Klassik B wheel. It has a replaceable ring as impact protection, which absorbs the energy on off-road contact and thus protects the wheel from damage – the ring itself can be replaced easily and cheaply. Finally, delta4x4 fitted the test Wrangler with a complete set of PIAA auxiliary lights, which turn night into day not only at the Dakar.
In the meantime, the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon built by delta4x4 with the Discoverer STT Pro tyres has completed an extensive test programme: the Swabian Alb was put under the wheels, as were the old smugglers’ paths between Spain and Andorra. The Pic Negre – with one of the highest off-road tracks in Europe – was also on the test programme, as were the Julian Alps in Slovenia. To finish, the Wrangler Rubicon was put through the course of the „Abenteuer Allrad“ trade fair for three days.
The clear conclusion: thanks to its ultra-hard sidewall and the 3D tread, the tyre is almost indestructible and reaches its goal under all conditions. After this demanding endurance test, the Cooper Discoverer STT Pro P.O.R. may adorn itself with the label „officially delta4x4 approved“.
