Nakatanenga has a new transport box in its range. The Outdoor Storage Box Pro comes in 50, 90 and 110 litres. It is waterproof and dustproof, and the storage trays and dividers are already included.
Late last year we showed you the waterproof transport boxes from Nakatanenga, which we really love. Now Nakatanenga has a successor, the Outdoor Storage Box Pro.
Waterproof and dustproof
The boxes are rotomoulded from impact-resistant polyethylene with 3.6 millimetre walls. That means they can take quite a beating. They are also dustproof and waterproof and UV-stabilised as well, so after the off-road trip you can happily keep driving them around on the roof for a while without worrying that the plastic will go brittle and crumbly.
Organisation built in
The nice thing is that the new transport boxes come with dividers and trays for all the small stuff. There is an elastic net in the lid for flat things like gloves or maps, and then there are removable trays for tools and odds and ends, plus dividers you can put in or leave out depending on what you are carrying. So on the trail not everything slides into one corner.
Strapping down and locking
The Nakatanenga Storage Box Pro has strap guides and lashing points on the left and right, where the handles are. That means you can strap it down properly on the roof rack or on a pick-up bed. Where the straps run through, the box is flattened, so the lid still closes tight even with a strap in between. The plastic latches open easily, but there is a small lever at the back you have to pull first. So nothing pops open by itself. If you want more security, you can hook a padlock through the eyelets at the front by the handles. On the sides there are carry handles, and you can take them off for the drive so nothing rattles. The reflective details on the body come in handy too, by the way, when you are looking for the box in the dark at camp. Oh, and there is a metal bottle opener bolted on as well.
Drain valve, handy for a cool box too
All three sizes have a drain valve. If you have carried something wet or muddy, or something has leaked, you just rinse the box out with a hose or a bucket of water, open the valve and let it all run out instead of tipping the whole box over. With ice or ice packs the Pro also works as a passive cool box, for that cold drink at camp in the evening. You simply let the water out afterwards.
