Off-Road Intensive Training at Abenteuer4x4

Advertisement: The first drive off-road often feels quite different from what you expect. Even if you’ve watched YouTube videos for hours beforehand and devoured books. A climb like that looks steeper in real life, the ditch deeper, the slope more tilted. That’s exactly why an off-road training before the first tour makes sense. At the intensive training from Abenteuer4x4, you get the chance to try all of that under safe conditions. South of Ingolstadt, on a private off-road site, you can experience for a whole day what your vehicle can really do and how much calmer a lot of it feels once the technique is in place.

The “Intensive” off-road training from Abenteuer4x4 doesn’t start in the classroom; you stand right by your vehicles. The instructors go around the car with you, explain all-wheel-drive systems, low range, differentials, tyre pressure, vehicle geometry. What sounds like dry theory becomes tangible here. You look at what ground clearance really means, where ramp and approach/departure angles start to cause problems, and why articulation is more than a pretty photo in the social feed. Then it’s off into the terrain. The radios are ready, contact with the instructor never breaks on the route. Instructions come in good time, mistakes are discussed, not judged. The aim is clear. At the end of the day you should roll off the terrain with more confidence in yourself and your vehicle.

Structured off-road training at Abenteuer4x4

The training is clearly structured. Climb, descent, hill starts, traversing, articulation, ditches, obstacles. Every section has a goal. You drive, get direct feedback over the radio, try a different line, change speed or gear choice, experience what happens when you lock or deliberately don’t lock the diffs. That way you learn to feel how your off-roader behaves when you guide it correctly.

The topics of traction and line choice in particular accompany you through the day. Anyone who’s ever stood on a wet slope and had the feeling the vehicle suddenly decides for itself will experience here how much calm arises once the technique is in place and the line is consciously chosen. You quickly notice that real control rarely looks spectacular, but feels all the more relaxed.

Safety, recovery, knowing the limits

Off-road driving also involves the question: what do I do when I can’t go any further. Abenteuer4x4 tackles this subject in its training too. It’s about sensible recovery gear, secure anchor points, basics for using a winch. After this day you should know how to avoid endangering yourself and other helpers when a vehicle is stuck and when which recovery gear makes sense.

Who the Abenteuer4x4 off-road intensive training is worth it for

The intensive training is intended for everyone who seriously wants to go off-road with their own vehicle.

  • Newcomers who don’t want to learn by trial and error at the wrong moment
  • Returnees who want to refresh their knowledge
  • Tour drivers who want to handle travel stages off-road confidently and gently on the gear

The requirement is an off-road-capable vehicle with low range, AT tyres with sufficient tread, recovery eyes front and rear as well as a full-size spare wheel. Permitted are classic off-road vehicles, off-road rigs with a trailer and 4×4 motorhomes up to about 4.5 tonnes. You drive with your own car, so you learn on exactly the vehicle you’ll be out with later.

Besides the “Intensive” off-road training in Ingolstadt, Abenteuer4x4 also offers further off-road training, including individual training in Sonnefeld, a women-only training, brand-specific courses like the INEOS Grenadier and the Mercedes G training, as well as off-road days in the Bavarian Forest, where driving and enjoyment come together.

About Abenteuer4x4

Abenteuer4x4 has accompanied off-road travellers on tours, training and events for a good decade.
