With the Bushtech BUSH CABIN, Mehari Offroad now has a new combination of hardtop and pop-top roof that turns a pick-up into a travel vehicle for two, with plenty of room and compact dimensions at the same time.
The Bushtech BUSH CABIN is currently available for the Hilux Revo double cab from 2016 on. More versions for other pick-ups popular with travellers, such as the Ford Ranger or VW Amarok, are planned. A version for the extra-cab flatbeds of these models is on the way too.
Comparatively lots of room while the exterior stays compact
Apart from the height, the cabin doesn’t add to the base vehicle’s dimensions. That keeps it capable off-road on narrow tracks. The BUSH CABIN’s weight also stays in check at roughly 230 to 310 kg depending on the version. Another plus when travelling and off the beaten track. It also means you don’t necessarily need a new suspension straight away.
The large rear door with tinted glass gives generous access into the cabin. Inside, the BUSH CABIN has standing height thanks to the sleeping compartment that folds up with one hand. That creates, despite the small footprint of the standard flatbed, a roomy space, handy in bad weather for example.
Practical fittings set the Bushtech BUSH CABIN apart
The cabin’s pop-top roof comes from the well-known roof tent maker Eezi-Awn. They look back on 40 years of roof tent production, and that experience has gone into this pop-top. The interior of the BUSH CABIN is insulated and fitted with lighting.
On the roof, C-channels let you fix extra equipment. An Anderson socket for a solar panel or auxiliary lights is fitted as standard too. The comfortable mattress, ten centimetres thick, makes a roomy sleeping area of 245 x 138 cm. Because the mattress is split in two, the sleeping area and the access hatch can be folded up separately.
Mehari Offroad offers the cabin in two trim levels
That still leaves plenty of options for self-builders to customise.
The Basic Cabin empty shell includes:
- Roof tent with C-channels on the roof, storage pockets on the sides and on the inside of the roof
- 10 cm thick mattress, sleeping area 245 x 138 cm
- Insulation in the roof and sides
- LED lights in the side flaps and in the sleeping compartment
- Hardtop in smooth aluminium sheet, black
The Basic Cabin version weighs around 230 kg.
The so-called Full House version additionally includes:
- Spare wheel carrier on the rear door
- MOLLE panels on the insides of the side flaps
- MOLLE panels outside, left and right of the rear door
- Ammo box mount (across the front)
- Pantry (pull-out shelf) on the side, mounted on the ammo box holder
- 1 storage shelf on the side with a flap for access from inside too
- 55-litre water tank with hose kit and tap (outside at the rear)
- Camping table (stainless steel) with a mount under the overcab
- Fold-down table that hooks on (on the outside side)
The Full House version weighs around 310 kg, and all the accessories from the Full House version can be ordered individually.
Fitting the complete BUSH CABIN to the vehicle, including sealing work, takes about 1.5 days and, for warranty reasons, has to be done in-house at Mehari Offroad. The cabin can’t be shipped. The cabin has to be registered (by individual inspection), and a report for this is being prepared.
