Primus SIP Power Gas

Primus SIP Power Gas

You probably sometimes think about sustainability in connection with off-road travel. The well-known equipment maker Primus has done so too and, some time ago, brought SIP Power Gas to market.

Right up front: in terms of contents, SIP Power Gas actually doesn’t differ at all from the familiar Power Gas. The sustainability of the new SIP gas comes from other components.

Shorter transport routes and „Made in Europe“

On gas cartridges of this kind you will often find a „Made in South Korea“. That results in correspondingly long transport routes. For SIP Power Gas, Primus has moved the filling to southern Europe. In addition, all components of the gas cartridge come from Europe. This reduces the ecological footprint through shorter transport routes and allows the conditions of production and the origin of the raw materials to be monitored better.

On top of that, there is a volume offset in the production of SIP Power Gas. For every SIP Power Gas cartridge, Primus buys biogas obtained from food waste. This gas comes from Sweden, where it is used for locally made products.

The same performance as conventional Power Gas

Primus assures the same performance and use across the same temperature range as the familiar conventional Power Gas, since the contents are identical. Both are optimised for temperature ranges from -5 to +25 °Celsius. For colder temperatures there is also Winter Gas, and for warmer surroundings Summer Gas.

We tried it out, of course. In practice, no difference could be found between Power Gas and SIP Power Gas. The more sustainable SIP Power Gas is considerably more expensive than the conventional variant and is therefore roughly at the price level of the Winter Gas cartridges. Although, as mentioned at the start, it doesn’t contain any more environmentally friendly gas, shortening transport routes is certainly a good step in the right direction.

You can find more information on the Primus website. SIP Power Gas is available, for example, at Globetrotter Ausrüstung*.
