Advertisement: Hey there, winter campers! Anyone who dares the frosty trip to a Christmassy Scandinavia knows: a reliable night heater is worth its weight in gold! But what good is the best heater without a healthy battery? So you do not end up sitting in the cold, check your auxiliary battery with the smart battery monitor from Balmar. That way you know exactly what your battery has left and can enjoy the winter wonderland without a care!
How much longer will the battery last?
The night heater, the cool box and all the little devices, from your smartphone to torches, are all charged from the auxiliary electrical system. In the dark, cold winter especially, but on any trip, it matters to know exactly what state your auxiliary battery is in and how charged it is. How long will the capacity last you? Is it charging properly? Do I need to drive the vehicle a few kilometres to run the night heater for more nights?
The Balmar SG200 battery monitoring system
A battery monitor gives you this information, a fuel gauge for your battery, if you like. But the Balmar SG200 system shows you the state of charge and also the state of health (SOH), which tells you about the battery’s ageing and general condition. Based on this data, the SG200 system also works out how long you can keep drawing power from your battery before it has to be charged.
The SG200 set includes a standard 52-millimetre OLED display; in the SG205 set the readout goes to your smartphone via a Bluetooth adapter. With the SG210 you can use both the display and your smartphone. The SG200 system supports all common battery types and works from 12 V to 48 V. You can monitor an auxiliary battery, a battery bank and the voltage of up to two main or starter batteries.

Technical highlights of the Balmar battery monitor:
- Voltage: 12 to 48 V
- Fully monitors one auxiliary battery or battery bank, plus voltage for up to two starter batteries
- Battery types: wet lead-acid, absorbed glass mat (AGM) and gel, LiFePO
- Display: SoH, SoC, time remaining (charging & discharging), voltage, current (charging & discharging)
- Display: 52-millimetre OLED display with various colour schemes and/or a smartphone app via Bluetooth
- Several SG200 systems can be cascaded to expand the monitoring
